Privacy and external links
Shumac Chat stores the site owner’s contact details and settings in the site’s WordPress database. Enabled business contact details are public wherever the widget is displayed. It does not collect visitor events, store conversations, set tracking cookies, load remote scripts/fonts, or make background requests to messaging platforms or the developer.
Contact links are created locally. An external destination is opened only when a visitor clicks its button. At that point the browser or app connects to the selected service, which can receive network information such as an IP address and applies its own policies. Visitors review and send messages in the selected service themselves. Do not put secrets or sensitive personal information into prefilled messages.

- Phone and email: tel: and mailto: links pass the configured business number or address to the visitor’s chosen phone or email application. The plugin does not place a call or send an email automatically.

Upgrading from WPSomali Chat or My Iskuul Chat
Back up your site. Deactivate the old Pro add-on first, then the old Free plugin; do not delete them before migration. Install and activate Shumac Chat 0.1.4, then Shumac Chat Pro 0.1.4 if used. Visit the Shumac Chat settings screen and verify your contacts, appearance, team settings and targeting before deleting the old packages. Shumac imports WPSomali settings first, or either older My Iskuul option format if WPSomali settings are absent. Existing Shumac options are never overwritten. Custom colors, language, text and contact data are preserved. The new widget pauses while a previous brand’s Free or Pro package is active. Clear page caches after migration.
Custom integrations must update PHP hooks to the shumac_chat_ prefix, JavaScript references to ShumacChat/ShumacChatPro and CSS selectors to smchat-. Old Pro packages do not extend Shumac Chat. No WordPress.org account or reserved slug is changed by installing these ZIPs.
Translations
Interface labels use literal WordPress gettext calls with the shumac-chat text domain. WordPress language packs can provide community translations. The bundled languages/so.php dictionary supplies an immediate Somali fallback for the plugin’s independent language selector, including installations with an English WordPress dashboard. It makes no remote requests. Custom text remains unchanged.
Source and licensing
All runtime PHP, JavaScript and CSS are included as readable source; no build step, bundled framework, or remote code is required. The plugin is distributed under GPL-2.0-or-later. See LICENSE.txt and CREDITS.txt for licensing and asset details.

- In WordPress, open Plugins > Add Plugin > Upload Plugin.
- Upload shumac-chat-0.1.4.zip and activate it.
- Open Shumac Chat in the admin menu.
- Enter and enable your contact channels. Phone numbers must include a country code.
- Enable the widget and save. The widget starts disabled and contains no demo contact details.
- Clear your page cache and check your site on mobile and desktop.

Is this an inbox?

No. Conversations continue in the selected app. WhatsApp messages are prefilled for the visitor to review and send.

Why is there no widget?

Check the enable switch, valid enabled contact details, device setting, excluded pages, Pro rules if active, and page caching. Themes must call wp_head() and wp_footer().

It opens your Instagram profile, not an embedded direct-message inbox.

How do I switch to Somali?

Open Appearance > Language > Soomaali and save. Leave text overrides blank to use Somali defaults. Custom text is preserved and is not translated automatically.

Are my settings deleted on deactivation?

No. Deactivation keeps settings. Deletion also keeps them unless you first enable the deletion setting under Help.

Can I use Pro alone?

No. Install and activate this Free plugin first, then activate the separate Pro add-on. Free continues to work when Pro is deactivated.
